In Anambra, gunmen kill two US officials, police officers, and set their corpses ablaze.

Four individuals have reportedly been slain by unidentified gunmen in the Amiyi/Eke Ochuche areas of Anambra's Ogbaru LGA.

Ikenga Tochukwu, the police spokesperson in Anambra, discussed the incident and claimed that the assailants attacked the vehicle carrying workers from the American consulate.

He said that "hoodlums murdered two of the PMF operatives, and two staff members of the consulate," and added that the shooters had set the victims' bodies on fire.

Following an attack on a convoy of US consulate workers yesterday May 16, 2023, by 3:30 pm along the Atani-Osamale route, security forces have launched a rescue/recovery operation in Ogbaru LGA. Two PMF operatives and two consulate employees were killed by the thugs, who then set fire to their bodies and their vehicles, according to him.

Additionally, the killers and arsonists kidnapped two police officers and the driver of the second vehicle as soon as they saw the responding joint security forces. The caravan did not contain any US citizens.

"The command regrets that a convoy of such or any related will enter the state without recourse to the local police or any security agency, but assures that the fight against the insurgents in the state is focused and it will continue until such a time as security stability is fully restored."

The incident was confirmed by the US mission in Nigeria, who noted that the safety of their staff was of utmost importance.

We can confirm that there was an incident in Anambra state on May 16. Personnel from the U.S. Mission in Nigeria are conducting an investigation alongside Nigerian security forces. We always prioritize the safety of our employees and take several safety measures while planning trips to the field. We don't have any additional comments at this time, a US mission official told Daily Trust.
