The newly redesigned naira notes were first published by the CBN only a few days ago, and soon after that, counterfeit notes started to circulate.
Having the ability to distinguish between fake and genuine naira notes is the only thing that is necessary.
When uncertain of a naira note's legitimacy.

There have been reports of fake notes entering the system since the Central Bank of Nigeria put the new naira notes into circulation, raising serious worries.
The Naira banknotes, however, are guarded by a number of security features, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria, making it simple to identify authentic notes. The raised print, the security thread, and the watermark are the unique characteristics that can be recognized by touch and visibility. On the obverse and reverse of the notes, the denominational digits, writing, and portrait are all embossed.
DONVRICHY BLOG has compiled several methods to spot a fake banknote in order to protect Nigerians from being scammed by counterfeiters.
Look for a thin strip that runs from the top to the bottom to tell if the note is real or fake. Every genuine paper naira note contains this strip or thread. This strip would never be on a false note; instead, it could only have an imitation of one.
Look out for a gold foil
A gold foil can be seen on your note to the right of the CBN governor's signature. Peeling the foil will allow you to verify the note's legitimacy. If it does peel, the note is clearly a fake because the genuine notes doesn't.
Check colour quality
In general, the images and colors on a genuine note are clear and accurate, but those on a counterfeit note can vary in clarity and appearance. You will typically see that the inks flow out of the images when the paper is brought up to the light.
Apply water or other liquid
When in doubt, lightly rub the note against your palm while submerging it in water or petrol. If the note is a fake, the colors will wash off, much like when kids use watercolor. When handling an authentic note, this only occurs.
Check the paper texture
Banknotes are typically created using a special kind of paper, whilst counterfeits are created using regular paper. You can try this easy test. Hold the note in question in one hand and the note that has already been shown to be authentic in the other. It is anticipated that the fake note would feel exactly like the real one. If not, however, it exposes it as a fake.
Using a mercury bulb
This is possibly the most reliable way to spot a fake naira note. Unless the notes are held up to a mercury light, some features contained in the naira notes are invisible to the naked eye. Since these characteristics are hard to replicate, only authentic naira notes have them. A luminous numeral figure of the note shows across the note in the background when held up to the mercury bulb's light.
Fake naira notes already in circulation
If allegations on social media are to be believed, fake versions of the CBN's newly redesigned naira notes are already circulating in Nigeria.
