Croatia overcomes Canada in the World Cup in an exciting comeback
Today, November 27, Croatia made a great comeback and eliminated Canada from the World Cup, doing so for the first time in 36 years.
Despite a strong first half from Canada, Croatia defeated the North American squad 4-1 thanks in large part to their experience.
After 1 minute and 8 seconds of play, Alphonso Davies gave Canada the lead. The nation's first-ever goal at a World Cup made it the earliest goal of the competition so far and a historic event.
The promising beginning rapidly vanished as Croatia defeated Canada twice to take the lead in Group F. In addition to Lovro Majer's goal, Marko Livaja also scored for Croatia, who opened with a scoreless draw against Morocco before losing to France in the final four years ago in Russia.
Both Croatia and Morocco, which earlier on Sunday defeated Belgium 2-0 to pull off another surprise at this year's tournament, have four points in Group F. With three points, Belgium has a chance to move on.
However, Canada failed to collect any points from its opening two games and is therefore unable to advance, even if it triumphs over Morocco on Thursday.
